Nhut Minh Le History 151 Definition # 2 1. Roman Republic: Around 500 BC, the Romans overthrew the monarchy and established the Roman Republic. The Roman Republic then gradually extended its territory and its influences. In 48 BC, by the victory at Pharsala, Caesar became the master of Rome and laid the foundation of the Empire. 2. Augusts: the first emperor of Rome(27 BC-14 AD), grand-nephew of Julius Caesar. He defeated Mark Anthony and Cleopatra then gained control over the Empire. After that, he was named emperor and given the title Augusts by the senate. 3. Christianity: Doctrines and religious based on the teaching of Jesus-Rooted in Judaism, Christianity was founded in first century in Palestine by disciples of Jesus. It was spread through the Roman Empire by St.Paul and was recognized by Constantine I . 4. Ashoka: king of India- the person who established and spread Buddhism. In 3rd century BC, Ashoka made Buddhism the state religion of India. After that, Buddhism fell into decay in India, but it spread to countries outside India. 5. Han Dynasty: has known the first emperor of China. During this period, Confucianism took root. It was adopted as an official ruling ideology, and then Chinese Empire expanded. 6. Koran: The Islamic holy book of Islam. According to Islamic belief, the Koran was revealed by the God to the Prophet Mohammed in separate revelation during Prophet's life at Mecca and Medina. 7. serf: Under Feudalism and the Manorial System, a peasant attached to then land held under the lord of the manor, for whom he performed servile labor. Serf traditionally had inviolable rights, and their labors service was governed by custom. 8. Genghis Khan: the Mongol emperor who united the Mongol tribes.
